Mike Tyson reveals he ‘almost died’ during medical episode in lead-up to Jake Paul fight
Mike Tyson has revealed a terrifying medical episode that left him fearing for his life in the lead-up to his highly anticipated bout with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. Speaking candidly on a podcast, the former heavyweight champion disclosed that the health scare occurred during his rigorous training regime.
Tyson, 57, explained that he had been pushing himself to the limit to prepare for the fight when he began experiencing severe symptoms. "I was doing my regular training, and then out of nowhere, I just collapsed. I couldn’t breathe, and my chest felt like it was on fire," he said.
Doctors later informed Tyson that he had suffered from acute dehydration and exhaustion, exacerbated by the intensity of his workouts and his strict diet. Tyson admitted that he hadn’t been paying enough attention to his body’s warning signs. “It was a wake-up call. I thought I was invincible, but I learned the hard way that I need to listen to my body.”
The incident led Tyson to reassess his approach to health and fitness. While he ultimately recovered, the scare raised questions about whether he should continue to participate in exhibition matches. Tyson assured fans that his health is now his top priority, stating, "I'm fine now, but I’ve learned to be smarter about how I train."
The fight with Jake Paul has since been postponed, with Tyson emphasizing the importance of being in peak physical condition before stepping into the ring again. Fans and fellow athletes have expressed their relief at Tyson’s recovery, praising his decision to prioritize his well-being.
